i got a job. through a temp agency at the biggest print shop in the state...State Printing, owned by RR Donnelley, biggest printer in the world. hopefully, it will lead to permanent employment and grander status there, haha. but the pay is only $1/hr less than i was making before and the insurance seems decent (and cheap). anyways, the Plant Manager wooed me into going through the temp agency, as that was my only employment option with them. he did promise that he would get me in a permanent spot as soon as one was vacated by another permanent employee. he seemed pretty impressed with my resume (thanks, Megan!). im guessing he doesnt get many peeps with 15 years of experience applying for jobs, haha. im really not even sure what im going to be doing, other than that it will involve something im familiar with (which is actually many things in printing). im hoping for less back breaking stuff, like pre-press, but im not holding my breath. im also doing some odd shift work to begin with... 2 twelve hour days, followed by three days off. im assuming it will be similar to this pattern: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shift_work#7-day_fortnight_shift
anyways, im pretty happy to have my foot in the door with a stable company. ive always worked for mom and pop printers and this is definitely going to be a change of pace for me. excited and a little nervous~ |

i had the chance to finally meet one of the main MOPR guys last night (Kevin, or backfat if you posted on the DB back in the day)... Kevin was working in North Charleston and dropped by for some mexican food (which gave him a terrible allergic reaction...yay!) and a few mexican beers. nice to finally meet the guy after talking to him online for around 8 or so years. Kevin = good dude.
in other news its so fucking hot here, its ridiculous. the news this morning said the heat index would be 112. i went outside to finish my weedeating from yesterday (i quit halfway through because yesterday was hot as hell, also)... i figured id pull a few stray weeds by hand and lay down all the mulch i bought yesterday in front of Chloes window. after all that (probably 45 minutes?) i felt really dehydrated and came inside... i sweat for 20 more minutes AFTER i was inside the frigging air-conditioned house. jeez. i went back out later and cleaned up the back patio and could only take about 20 minutes of that, but at least its done.

did so for the first time in 3.5 years...
i just went back and checked my LJ posts to verify this. yup... holy crap, didnt realize it had been so long. maybe there is a stray show somewhere in there since then and im missing it, but still. wow.
anyways, i only got two songs done:

"Straight to Hell" (drivin n cryin)
and i blew goats on both of them. im so used to playing against drum machines and computer files, playing with real people again was mind blowing, haha. im going to try again next tuesday, maybe. it was still fun to hang out with my pal Dan the Man before he moves back to Wisconsin. hopefully, he and i can play a tune or two together next week before he goes for good. |

so yesterday i sat in the (VERY crowded) unemployment office for 2.5 hours and was rewarded with ...south carolina unemployment benefits. the weekly check is actually a tiny bit more than i brought home each week (im just not paying $140/week for health insurance for each family member anymore out of a check).
the "Bad Deal" was that i have to remain "available" for work during the same hours as my last job (7:30am to 4pm)... so no taking the kids out of daycare... although i can still keep them home and watch them if im not busy (which i probably wont be). i just still have to pay $200/week to keep them in daycare just in case i DO get a job during day hours. since i cant refuse work if its offered to me by a potential employer. anyways, i/we am/are making the best of it.
it seems like the state isnt very brutal about checking if ive been looking for work, which is cool. i kept a detailed log of all my job searches and followups with employers...i offered to show it to them and they shrugged me off, haha. i just have to call an automated phone system every sunday and say that i have been looking for work and that i havent been working. pretty easy.
anyways. today ive been waiting from a phone call from the owner ofthe company that was my last company's main competitor. i emailed him my resume yesterday morning and he called me back yesterday telling me to call him today to try and set up a time for an interview. ive been playing phone tag with the guy all day. to be honest, i kinda hope he doesnt want to hire me, as it would be yet another hell of a commute through the worst traffic in the state to probably make not nearly as much as i was lucky to get at my last job.
just thought a few of you might be wondering what the hell happened to me, haha. |

i got laid off from my job as a bindery manager today. this month is 6 years that ive been working there. applying for unemployment tomorrow (never had it before, so we will see how it goes). if i can stay home with Addie for the rest of the summer it might actually be a good deal. |

our beautiful baby girl was born on Friday at 2:47 PM! she weighed 8 lb, 9 oz and is 22" long with black hair and blue eyes...
i left a long message on the dorkboard, which im going to repost here:
im home for a little bit to get some food and a little rest... but we are getting out of the hospital tomorrow morning. i dont have the camera with all my pics here so i cant get you anything to look at yet. i sent a couple of people a picture text msg from Maggies camera phone but i dont think it worked. the operation was pretty br00tal... definitely very grindcore. Maggie is still not feeling very well, but theyve got her hooked up on some good stuff. id say most of my sleep deprivation has come from the hospital staff coming in the room pretty much twice an hour, every hour. also, her drug-induced ramblings, haha. i still love "SEAN... I'M CRYING.... CRYING, SEAN!"
the baby is awesome... either very hungry or very sleepy, haha. also the most beautiful baby in the world (sorry, other parents). she already loves listening to her dad sing terrible songs to her. and she has my butt-chin, which should make Lex very happy.
i took about 100 pictures already and will start posting some tomorrow, im guessing. |

i made a decision on December 1st, 2006 to cut down on my drinking of alcoholic beverages... one year later, my count is 69 beers (that is right, i counted!) drank in that period. pretty weird for me, but i thought a few of you might get a chuckle out of me averaging less than a 6 pack A MONTH for a year, haha.
i remember back in my single, bachelor, living in an apartment by myself days i would have averaged a 6 pack a DAY, haha. |
